Day 1 – Quality time

The need for connection and emotional warmth feels more essential than ever. Whether you’re living away from your family or under the same roof, there’s always a way to spend quality time with each other.

Spending time together is very different to the definition of spending quality time together. Quality time is all about being mindful and intentional, it’s about putting in all of your attention to the person you’re spending time with in that moment. In a world full of constant distractions coming from all directions, try your best to put all your energy into the time you do spend with family.

Routines have changed drastically for everyone and conversations can seem to become mundane with everyone’s social lives and schedules on hold. However, this is an opportunity to explore into more creative ways to connect and spend quality time with family. If you live under the same roof as your family, organise a cooking session, or competition, with eachother to make a specific meal in a certain time period. If you live away from family, virtually hold your cooking session and enjoy your food together over a video call. If you and your family have not already jumped on the quiz bandwagon, I would highly suggest this, definitely brings out everyone’s competitive streaks.

Whatever way you may be spending time with family, make it quality time. Put in all your energy, focus and attention when you’re spending time with them. Be present in the moment and push any other thoughts aside. Every moment of life is so special. Covid has shown us just how much we all need human connection and how finite human life is. Embrace the time you have with your family and savour each moment.
