Day 5 – Walking
Now more than ever, the thought of staying indoors 24/7 feels super easy to justify, but having that time outdoors is very crucial too. Despite the lockdown, going for socially distanced walks in nature is a great way to get your daily dose of fresh air, and show some love to all the nature around you.
The rhythm of walking at a steady pace is a form of meditation when done mindfully. Mindful walking is all about taking in everything around you with each of your senses – hearing the birds chirping, seeing the trees swaying, and feeling the light breeze on your face. It’s all about being present in that moment and showing your love towards the environment you’re in. Even if it’s just for 10 minutes, I’ve always found a quick walk leaves me feeling refreshed and renewed. Personally, within my daily routine it’s something I’m looking to incorporate more. Although walking on a treadmill indoors may be an option, the benefits of taking some time to walk outside are extremely vast.
For all those working from home right now, the temptation to stay indoors all the time can be rife. With the distractions of Netflix and social media, it can often feel like the easier route to just stay cooped up inside. Fight this urge when you feel it, and show some love to all the nature around you by walking amongst it and taking it all in. Whatever you may be going through right now, no matter how stressful life may seem, sometimes it’s the seemingly little things in our world that help us recenter and relax. Walk out all the worries and anxieties you may have, walk it all out. Acknowledging the beauty of nature, from what we may see as just ordinary on this world, helps to show our planet the love it most truly deserves, and even helps to put our current situations into perspective when it comes down to what truly matters in life.
